"One Million Moms" Don't Love Kraft Mac & Cheese

By Aaron Bailey in Arts & Entertainment on May 12, 2005 4:13PM

games.gifYou didn't expect Chicago's involvement in the 2006 Gay Games to be drama free, did you?

Kraft-125x50.gifThe Games scored some pretty impressive hometown corporate sponsors like Kraft and Harris Bank and now "family" organizations have their (straight) panties in a bunch.

The American Family Association's "One Million Moms" have been mobilized to write and call to urge Kraft to drop their sponsorship because the games are "supported and endorsed by dozens of homosexual activist groups and organizations, including homosexual magazines and television outlets." The horror!

The local Illinois Family Institute is also advocating action against other "non-homosexual" corporate sponsors:

By allowing their corporate logos to be used to promote the "Gay Games," Kraft, Harris Bank and other sponsoring companies are celebrating wrong and destructive behaviors, and showing their disdain for the majority of Americans who favor traditional morality and marriage.

Here are the (non-homosexual) corporate sponsors so far for the Homosexuality "Games" to be held in Chicago next year:

Kraft Foods: 1-800-323-0768
Harris Bank (with more than 150 Illinois locations): 1-888-340-2265
Bridgeview Bank (with 15 Chicagoland locations): 1-800-794-2070
Buca di Beppo Restaurants (with 5 Chicagoland locations): (612)225-3400; famiglia@bucainc.com
Play It Again Sports (with 10 Chicagoland locations): 1-800-567-6600 (ask for Steve Murphy)
Francesca Restaurants (with 14 Chicagoland locations): (773)334-8368; info@francescarestaurants.com

Have you noticed that those right-wing groups like to use the word "homosexual" more than most?

A similar campaign and later boycott of Procter and Gamble resulted in the consumer products giant pulling advertising from Will & Grace and "homosexual" magazines.

Chicagoist doesn't know whether these latest campaigns will be successful, but we do know that eating more Oreos to show our support for Kraft is conterproductive in training for the Games next summer.
