How Sweet It Is

Are you in the mood for glamming it up for a sugar boost? Chicagoist has got the place.
Sugar: A Dessert Bar is as it says: a clubby watering hole with a menu consisting entirely of desserts.
Plan on dressing to impress. Ironically all of the staff weighs less than 100 pounds and shows enough skin to prove it. You may feel slightly intimidated when entering, but once you’re seated at the lollipop look-alike tables designed by Suhail, the man famous for The Real World house and take a look at your options, Chicagoist thinks you’ll begin to feel at ease.
It’s nice to see some creativity and literary knowledge on the menu. With items from One Soufflé Over the Cuckoos Nest, Crepes of Wrath (warm bananas and chocolate wrapped into a delicate crepe and covered with ice cream) and Chicagoist’s personal favorite MacDeath by Chocolate. The MacDeath by Chocolate is delivered to the table and resembles a piece of art: a pyramid-shaped chocolate cake opens to an warm, oozing liquid center accompanied with complimenting bittersweet chocolate sorbet. The cocktails are just as sweet and clever ranging from martinis to dessert wines to champagnes. We’re confident you’d be able to find a drink in this menu that reads like a novel and offers martinis that range from mango to vanilla caramel.
Willy Wonka definitely provided inspiration for this loud, perfect place for people watching - or should we say eye candy? Once the sugar kicks in you will be prepared to burn off some of the calories dancing to the DJ. Come with a full wallet and be prepared to leave with lots and lots of energy.
Sugar: A Dessert Bar is located at 108 W. Kinzie. For more information call 312.822.9999.
