Drunkfest Season Begins!

Chicagoist officially knows it's summer when the neighborhood festivals begin. Or as we like to call them, the drunkfests. Because even the ones that pretend to be about something else are still really just all about the drinking. Take, for example, the Old Town Art Fair. Chicagoist attended this last year and thought we'd see some art, but all we really remember is how beautifully the vodka mixed with the lemonaide and how great it went down as we sat in the sun all day and got wasted.
This weekend is Lakeview's 10th annual Mayfest and it's bound to be the first drunkfest of the year. At least if you do it right! Mayfest will be featuring food, local artisans, and local merchants, but what we're looking forward to are 3 days of music... and BEER.
Ok. So, we think you get the point. If you're not into beer as much as us, on Saturday there will be a celebration to thank and honor the men and women from Chicago who have served in the armed forces. This event is from 12p - 3p. Drinking all night to follow, we're sure!
On Sunday there's a pet parade where you can showcase the talents of your meow or woof. Or even your chirp or moo. Basically, we're thinking any animal with a "talent" in categories like "Best Looking" or "Largest" or "Owner Look-a-Like". If your dog can run to the fridge and fetch you a Bud Light like in the commercials you'll want to sign him up for the "Pet Trick" portion of the event. Registration begins at 11a and the show's at noon.
For a complete festival music lineup (Hairbangers Ball!?!) check the site. We'll see you drunk, and we'll see you there!
