Ask Chicagoist: Happy Hour Anxiety

By Sarah in Miscellaneous on May 24, 2005 4:24PM

anxiety.jpgI read a blog every day and really like the writers' insights and take on local news. They're having a Happy Hour but I know that none of my friends would want to go and I'm afraid of looking like a huge nerd if I go by myself. What should I do?

Hello Adorable Shy Friend,
What makes you so sure your friends don’t want to go? Have you asked ‘em? You like the blog, and you like your friends…there’s a syllogism in here somewhere. (Hey, WE'RE having a Happy Hour this week! Are you asking about OURS?)

So send this email, TODAY:“Dudes [or Dude-Ladies, of course],
Check it out: (give 'em the URL here, and we hope its US!). I read this website every day and I LOVE IT. I think their Happy Hour will put the extra D in Radd. Plus I suspect there will be cute people there. Who’s coming with me? I’ll buy the first round!” (which is funny cuz drinks are free, at least at Our Happy Hour)

Just in case that doesn’t work (and Ask Chicagoist can think of NO reason why it wouldn’t) then it means you should branch out, fly solo, jump from the nest, get the worm (any other chirpy spring metaphors out there?) and head to Happy Hour on your own.

That’s right. What on earth is there to lose? Put on your favorite shirt, dance around the apartment for a few songs (we like The Shins for these moments), and step out into your fresh new social life. Everyone is dying to meet you, and that’s the truth.
