Unbreak My Heart

2005_04_sports_curry_heart.jpgChicagoist is beginning to get a little concerned about the fate of Eddy Curry's heart and his Bulls career. Word was that Bulls were going to announce that Eddy had been cleared to resume physical activity yesterday, but that didn't happen because they're still not ready to do so based on the results of tests taken on Monday.

2005_05_sports_paxson_curry.jpgCurry experienced an irregular heartbeat during pre-game in late March. Following some initial testing in Boston and Minnesota, the Bulls annouced they were ending his season at an April 14 press conference in order to continue evaluating his condition. When test this week didn't lead to a clean bill of health, pessimism replaced the optimism that has been expressed by Curry and Bulls brass throughout this ordeal.

So will Curry play again? Will this condition affect his career if he does play? And is all this extra careful attention due to this being a contract year for Eddy?

Not to be cynical and all, but it sure does work in the Bulls' favor to prolong this as long as they can. It allows them to determine as certainly as possible about Eddy's future career prospects before inking him to a contract, while also scaring away potential bidders for his services. How convenient for the Bulls, who have a half dozen rookie contracts expiring over the next couple years. We're all for making sure Eddy's health is looked after, but at some point one has to question the repetative delays. It's almost like the Cubs' training staff is somehow involved...
