Hatch Sisters' Trial Begins

The Hatch sisters.. are they like the midwestern version of Paris & Nicole? Pulling shinanigans at nightclubs, demanding special treatment, getting into fights, attacking police? Or are they just some nice Minnesotan girls trying to have a good time on a birthday? The trial began yesterday and that's what the judge will be deciding.
Yesterday in opening statements, prosecutors said that Elizabeth and Anne Hatch, the daughters of MN's attorney general, were drunk and violent during an incident at Crobar last year. The occassion was Anne's 21st birthday and the whole thing is said to have started when a waitress refused to serve Elizabeth another Cosmo because she was too wasted. Elizabeth called her a bitch and was then escorted out of the bar by security. When the girls kept fighting with security, the bouncers called over a police car that was passing by.
Prosecutors say that the girls screamed profanities, attacked police, resisted arrest, tried to get special treatment, and damaged property outside the club. Elizabeth allegedly slapped an officer and his glasses flew off his face and Anne allegedly slapped another officer and kicked out a squad car window after cops put her in the backseat. It's been reported that they both were screaming about who they were, the daughters of Minnesota Attorney General Mike Hatch, and made sure everyone knew. Juicy.
Defense attorneys, of course, deny that the women tried to get special treatment because their old man is the MN AG. They admit that the girls misbehaved but say that no crimes were committed. Oh, and they're also alledging that police used excessive force.
The sisters held hands in court yesterday as their father waited outside because he may be called to testify. If the judge convicts them, they face up to a year in jail and $2,500 in fines. Anne is a student here at DePaul and get this, Elizabeth graduated from a school in MN last year and majored in criminal justice.
Testimony continues today.
