And The OutMusic Award Goes To...

Okay, so MTV won't be broadcasting it, but Sunday is the big event in the gay music scene, and it's taking place right here in our fair town. The 2005 OutMusic Awards will showcase this year's hottest gay and lesbian singers, songwriters, and producers from across the country.
The day promises to be entertaining just by the fact that actress and singer Lea DeLaria (we loved her in Edge of Seventeen!) hosts along side Chicago's very own punk leather daddy Jinx Titanic. AND! Randy Jones, better known as the Cowboy of The Village People, will be awarded an OutMusic Special Recognition Award for his lifetime contribution to, uh, catchy wedding reception music. Saddle up!
Oh yeah, and then there are the awards, given in a myriad of typical music award show categories like "Outstanding New Recording - Female" and "Outstanding Producer." Chicagoist has no favorites to win, but we do like nominee The Kinsey Sicks' song title, "I Wanna Be A Republican." The OutMusic website has photos of those nominated along with streaming samples of their music.
The event runs all day Sunday (various performances, the awards, post-party, etc.) and tickets are available on-line.
