Is Muhsin Muhammad already becomming a bad influence on his new teammates? Early Sunday morning, defensive tackle "Tank" Johnson was arrested on gun charges -- a crime Muhammad plead guilty to in 2002 while playing for the Panthers.
Around either 3:00 or 5:00 am (it is really that hard to get these facts right, major city newspapers?), a valet at Excalibur nightclub saw Johnson put a handgun inside the center console of his GMC Yukon. The valet ratted him out to police, who arrested him inside the club.
Tank was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun and is expected in court on Friday. Elliot Zinger, Johnson's attorney, said the arrest was a result of his client making "a mistake" because "[h]e's from another state and not familiar with what's going on here." Chicagoist is waiting for that excuse to fly in court! Especially since Johnson grew up in Gary, Indiana.
Tank follows a long line of Chicago athletes who have been charged with illegally possessing guns. In addition to Muhammad's arrest, former Bears player Alonzo Spellman and former Bulls Marcus Fizer and Scottie Pippen have all been charged with gun-related crimes.
