For The Hot Dog And Beer Lover In All Of Us

Coming off what amounts to a four-day weekend is hell. Sure, we at Chicagoist enjoy the time off as much as anybody but when we came back to work yesterday we were simply unmotivated, thinking about all the wonderful grilling and drinking we did over the holiday. That's why we're thrilled to know July is both National Hot Dog Month and American Beer Month. Knowing this Chicagoist is having a hard time keeping its inner Homer Simpson in check. (Mmmmm... beer).

In honor of the former, Fluky's Hot Dogs is giving away free hot dogs to anyone named Frank: first, middle, or surname; or any variations (Francis, Francine, or General Francisco Franco). But don't think of pulling a Kobayashi- you only get one frank per Frank.

The beer lover has a few more options. Friday night Armanetti's at 3530 N. Lincoln is hosting an event called "The Lone Gunman's Friday Night Beer Slingin'." Jeebus, that's a mouthful!

Anyway, they'll be serving up some Prima Pils from Pennsylvania's Victory Brewing Company, Founder's Centennial India Pale Ale from Michigan, and Fuller's London Pride English Pale Ale.

You can also take the way to really fly out to Barrington this Saturday (if you are going to do any of these, please do so responsibly) for the Barrington Microbrew Fest. Held at the Barrington Train Station from 1-5:30 p.m. you can sample from over 30 micro and home brewers. Proceeds from the $30 event admission benefit the Barrington Area Council on Aging.

Other events in honor of American Beer Month include a July 12 "beer night" at Sam's Wine and Spirits, a "tour de biergarten" (2 p.m., July 17) sponsored by the Logan Square Draught Beer Preservation Society that starts at the Handlebar, and the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild's Summer Brewfest at the Onion Pub & Brewery in Lake Barrington on July 30th.

It bears repeating: Mmmmm... beer.
