Books for Geeks

Let's face it, as cool as we all know we are, there's a little bit of geek in all of us. And for those of us not willing to face it, there's Paul Feig: self-described freak, geek, and former 24-year-old virgin. In his new book, Superstud (and man, check out that sweet leisure suit), the creator of the short-lived Freaks and Geeks television series describes all of the cringeworthy (and hilarious) details of his early sex life, or lack thereof. It's like he's bottled up all the geekiness of the world and archived it for the personal preservation of all.
Okay, to be honest, Chicagoist doesn't think we're cool at all. We're totally geeks. Seriously, though. But, as Feig tells the Reader (PDF. Yes, PDF. It's bugging the shit out of us too.):
...as years went by and I would tell my stories, people would go, “Wow, that’s worse than mine.” But everybody has stories that are embarrassing and humiliating. Part of it is how you choose to process them.
And in Superstud: Or How I Became a 24-Year-Old Virgin (and his previous memoir, Kick Me: Adventures in Adolescence), Feig processes his stories with a fabulous sense of humor. He allows us to laugh with him and take comfort in the fact that, okay, we're not quite that geeky (or, alternately: hey, someone like us!). Feig will be at Barbara's UIC tonight to read from Superstud, and we bet it will be a good old geeky time. (Just take a look at the pure geekiness of his old website, last updated in September 1999. It's the kind of thing we'd find about now and go, "oh shit, that's still there?")
