Blagadaddy Signs "Video Games Is Evil And Shit" Bill

By Sam Bakken in News on Jul 26, 2005 7:04AM

Well, he finally did it. He signed his law banning the sale of violent and sexy video games to minors. But not without uttering, what sounds to us like, quite a contradictory quote:

Parents don't need government to raise their kids. That’s their job. But government can help them protect their children from influences they may not want their kids exposed to.

Mmmkay...so parents don't need the government to parent their kids, except when it comes to parenting.

To no one's surprise, the computer and video game industry has already filed suit.

7_2005_videosex.jpgIn the press release, the Guvna's PR people seemed especially excited about the recent decision by the Entertainment Software Rating Board to change the rating for the video game "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" from "Mature 17+" (M) to "Adults Only 18+" (AO) because of a sex-hack. For more info on the hack read this safe-for-work Boing Boing post. But click carefully, most links included in that post are only for those looking to get fired (or, when you get home tonight, fired UP). The U.S. House of Representatives passed a measure yesterday asking the FTC to investigate the makers of the game to see if they knew about the hack.
