The Neo-Futurists (and friends) take on classic films

Being a fan of the House Theatre of Chicago and campy movies on the USA Network, last Thursday Chicagoist journeyed to the House's reading of "Tremors: Edited for Television" at the Neo-Futurarium.

40m.jpg The House's take on this film included Shawn Pfautsch and Lucas Merino reading the roles of the protagonists Val and Earl (originally played by Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward), Stephen Taylor and Marika Mashburn reading the lines of the gun happy couple Burt and Rhonda (originally played by Michael Gross and Reba McEntire), and Chipotle rice and bean burritos playing the roles of the man-eating worms.

The reading was the latest in the Neo-Futurarium's fourth annual summer film fest. Fortunately, the series continues through August, with the latest installment being performed Thursday. Director David Kodeski will be leading the Neo-Futurists in performing the 1964 film "Where Love Has Gone". Tickets can be purchased online or at the door for ten dollars and this is a great, if silly, way to fill a slow Thursday evening. Just watch out for flying food-stuffs.
