Tell Newcity What's Best

By Sam Bakken in News on Aug 4, 2005 8:22PM

8_2005_newcity.JPGNewcity is calling for submissions for their annual "Best of Chicago" issue. So if you know where to buy the coolest things, get the sharpest haircuts and dine on the hippest eats, go here and let 'em know. Polls close on August 31 at midnight.

Unfortunately there's no "Best local Web site" category this year. Newcity Editor/Publisher Brian Hieggelke told us why:

In order to keep the list fresh, we revisit categories only every five years in most cases. The only exceptions generally are the "best new" categories since they're fresh by definition. Occasionally we'll make an exception if a category has changed dramatically in less than five years (or if we make a mistake and repeat something accidentally).

Thus, most reigns are for at least five years.

So it looks like you'll have to wait until 2009 to help us dethrone last year's champs Zulkey and Gaper's Block.

For those of you that adore nominating us for various awards and just can't wait another four years, we suggest you nominate Chicagoist for the following:

--Best new vice for Mike Ditka if the smoking ban passes
--Best recent example of the adage "Chicago ain’t ready for reform"
--Best local cover band
--Best place to pick up a one-night stand
--Best public beach
