Oh, You'll Bake For It!

Chicagoist loves to spend weekend mornings grabbing a coffee and a treat, and heading down to the lake to enjoy it. And not just so we can be eating a huge calorie-packed Danish while all the runners are flying by, either. It’s a really nice way to ease into the weekend.
Like most bakeries, Bake for Me has a large assortment of Danishes, sweet rolls, donuts, bagels, and muffins, but what we love the most are the buttery croissants filled with chocolate (the raspberry filled are a close second!), $1.35 each or $13.50 for a dozen. Oh, if Chicagoist only could eat a dozen...without anyone watching.
Their cake and pastry assortments are huge and include our favorite Double Chocolate Mousse Cake, priced from $15.95 for a six inch cake to $59.00 for a sixteen inch. They also have Carrot Cake, Black Forest Cake (both start at $16.95 for a six-inch) and you can order extras like fruit, custard, or extra mousse to go with or in your chosen cake. Or, a good gift to take to a friend’s house for a dinner party is their assortment of bite-size cookies, $8.95/pound. 
Not just a bakery, Bake for Me also does a brisk business catering business lunches as well. Box lunches are $7.85 per person, with the typical chips, pickle, and cookie or brownie for dessert. For those who prefer vegetarian choices, they have an assortment of veggie salads for $5.90/pound, like Tortellini and Artichokes, Red Pepper and Broccoli, and Chicagoist’s favorite Black Bean Avocado. Delicious and full of the fiber you need. What’s not to love?
Chicagoist’s only issue with the Roosevelt store is that it isn’t open on Sunday. We know we certainly like our Sundays off, so we completely understand. So on Saturdays we make sure to get down there, and either walk or take the #12 bus down to the lake, sit on a bench, and enjoy. As you wind down your week, consider doing the same this weekend.
