Fashion Week In Chicago? We Have Such A Thing?

Chicagoist will fess up right now and say that of all of the things we are good at, keeping up with fashion trends is not one of them. We're classic dressers -- and snark never goes out of style.
But just because we're hopelessly inept at such things doesn't mean that you, dear reader, aren't a fashionista to the nth degree. For that we, well, we're not jealous, nor are we particularly curious but we certainly admire your chutzpah in sporting those gawd-awful gauchos that every woman on the north side of town insists on wearing lately. You rock those stupid pants, sister!
September 19 begins Fashion Focus Chicago 2005 and not only does the week promise a JLo sighting -- and thank God because what Chicago needs is Jennifer Lopez running around in it -- but plenty of people willing to get your attention with contests and giveaways.
Starting today, Marie Claire magazine, the much-less inspid of the women's fashion magazines in that it actually devotes editorial pages to real news as opposed to the latest tricks to find a woman's g-spot, is giving away tickets to its "Haute Shopping" spree at the Mercury Milan display at the Sofitel Chicago Water Tower, which includes a chance to win an exclusive $1,000 shopping spree courtesy of Mercury Milan and Marie Claire.
There is a catch to the contest: to qualify for the drawing, you need to get your ticket stamped at all of Marie Claire's events from now until Saturday, which really isn't a bad thing if fashion is your bag, baby. If you get down to the Sofitel by 5:30 p.m. today, and are one of the first 100 people, you get a bag filled with free ... fashion products and other assorted hoopla, we assume.
