Tuesday Night Music Club

Tonight is your best chance to see a Big Ass Rock Star kicking around town.
Almost every major venue will be busy tonight with acts like U2, Beck, Franz Ferdinand, and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Unfortunately, Beck and U2 are both sold out so Chicagoist has spent the morning speculating on where they might end up afterwards. Based on Beck’s penchant for impromptu performances in taco joints, we’re staking out Fiesta Mexicana. As for U2, they’re from out of town and probably don’t know any better so we’re thinking Fado.
Tickets are still available for the Franz Ferdinand/Pretty Girls Make Graves/Cut Copy show tonight at the Aragon and the BRMC show at Metro. Cut Copy (they're the handsome fellas at left) will also be playing a DJ set at SmartBar afterwards and headlining at Subterranean on Saturday.
For those whose payday is far away, Chicagoist recommends these cheap shows tonight:
Diamond Nights have been performing around NYC for the last few years and built up quite the buzz there, but they’re still trying to win fans here. When Chicagoist saw them at Double Door during a Lollapalooza after-party, they were thrown off their game by the patented Wicker Park Concert Pose (crossed arms, blank stare). Their full-length, Popsicle, came out last week and until The Darkness (or Thin Lizzy) tours again, they’re your best bet for 70s-style rawk. Bottom Lounge, 8 PM, $8, 21+
With so many British-style American bands making noise in the past year, it was probably inevitable that the UK would start turning out its own versions of American rock stars. Since Beck is sold out, why not check out London’s own purveyor of “white boy funk rock”, Tom Vek. Oh My Rockness has a brief profile of him here. If you’re planning on going, be sure to learn the Tom Vek gang sign first. Schuba's, 9 PM, $8, 18+
