Two Peas In A Pod

For reasons that seem obvious but what the hell does Chicagoist know as she was a journalism major, Royal Ahold NV, the Dutch grocery operator that owns and operates the Skokie-based online grocery store Peapod, is looking to buy up some of Albertson's Inc, the parent company of Jewel-Osco.
Crain's yesterday reported that "Ahold CEO Anders Moberg made the comments during an interview with Bloomberg News" and that he wasn't looking to buy up the entire company. Albertsons has been on the selling block since September as Wal-Mart seems to be taking a chunk of their business away. Those Waltons. Will they stop at nothing?
Chicagoist hates on Wal-Mart, almost as much as we hate on Whole Foods! and Macy's!, but we're not the biggest fans of Albertson's, either. Peapod, however, is near and dear to our hearts if in the winter months only when we're willing to get screwed by the higher prices if it means we don't have to go out into the cold. Albertson's is mum so far but Chicagoist is curious what this would mean for yet another Chicago institution.
