Two Benefits For One Great Cause

The mainstream media has moved on to other issues but the effects of Hurricane Katrina are still being felt by people in the Gulf Coast region. Two upcoming shows will try and ease some of the burden for folks who weren’t lucky enough to hit it big at the slots. (Seriously, CNN: was “flooded” really the best verb for the job in that second graf?)
The stylish and hip folks at Pistil Magazine will strut their stuff tonight in a fashion show celebrating the release of their sixth issue, “Guts.” Pistil events usually tie in with the issue’s title so Chicagoist was a little freaked out at the possibility of a “guts” fashion show. Sounds more like something you’d see at a Gwar show. But tonight’s show is titled “Guts and Garters” and we’re suckers for anything involving lingerie. The show kicks off at 10 PM this evening at Four (1551 W. Division). Chicago designers Jeff Millbern and Kristen Lindbeck will show off their latest creations as DJs Martin “Boogieman” Luna and Jernell Geronimo spin house and hip-hop. Your $10 covers gets you a copy of Pistil’s latest issue and some good karma as a portion of the evening’s proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross.
Then on Monday, some of Chicago’s most-talked-about bands will perform at Metro as part of Rock and Rebuild: A Hurricane Katrina Benefit Concert. Taking the stage that evening will be The Changes, The Redwalls, The M’s, Abstract Giants and Bumpus with the Life During Wartime DJs spinning between sets. The Changes are heading into the studio this fall to record their full-length so this might be your last chance to see them until the new year. The all-ages show starts at 6:30 PM. Tickets are $20 and available at the Metro box office.
