Blago Prepares For Boos

Hey Sox fans—your governor hopes your team will win the World Series, but don’t expect the die hard Cubs fan to wear any Sox gear or join in a cheer for the Southsiders.

After Blagojevich told The Sporting News last year that he “wouldn’t wear a White Sox cap even if they made the World Series,” he is sticking by his pledge and saying that he will not wear one when he attends Sunday’s game.

He said doing so, “would be very phony.”

(Chicagoist has included this pause here so you can re-read the above line and laugh.)

(Still laughing… that’s okay, we’re patient)

Phony? Wearing a Sox cap would be phony? And we suppose campaigning as a reformer wasn’t phony?

Blago also said on Thursday that he is expecting to be booed on Sunday’s game. That is a safe assumption since Chicagoist has personally witnessed the governor being booed at Cubs games over the past two years.

If you can’t get any love in your beloved Wrigley, it sure as hell won’t be waiting for you at the Cell.

Earlier this month Mayor Daley invited Cubs fans to jump on the Sox bandwagon, and Blago took him up on it. However, now that Daley knows Blago’s approval numbers stand at a whopping 39 percent, he might want to push him off and not risk jinxing the team.
