Rising Up and Raising Funds

Chicagoist feels fortunate to provide a public service to you, dear reader. We enjoy breaking hard hitting news and fostering a space for the vital debates of our time.

5thlogo.gifBut we know that all this pales in comparison to the charitable folks lending a hand to the underprivileged, helping them to improve their lives, to self-advocate, and to tell their stories. These folks work at organizations like Beyondmedia Education. Not your ordinary non-profit, Beyondmedia brings together academics, advocates, and media types to foster grass-roots storytelling about traditionally underrepresented groups. Their stories put the women and children first in a style more immediate than your typical newscast.

Creating your own media is definitely a cause we can get behind. You, fair readers of online non-traditional media, should consider helping these folks out. If you’ve been wondering who will be the next to rage against the machine, you may find your answer at next Friday’s Beyondmedia 5th Anniversary Celebration at the Congress Hotel. The upstart group will look back on its short but illustrious history, provide a performance or two, feed you and provide the opportunity to win decadent prizes… all for a good cause, of course.

Tommorrow is your last chance to get tickets at $60, or $35 if your wallet’s feeling a bit lighter. Any remaining tickets will cost you an additional $5 at the door.
