Chicagoist Gets Derailed

By Scott Smith in Arts & Entertainment on Nov 7, 2005 6:47PM

We know this makes us sounds like those guys who hang out in doorways wearing hats made out of tinfoil but Jennifer Aniston has been stalking us through the media.

When we attended a Saturday night showing of Jarhead, she was there in a preview for her new film Derailed,2005_11_07_derailed.jpg co-starring Clive Owen. As we sipped our Sunday morning coffee, she appeared on AMC’s Movies 101 to discuss her acting career. And as we opened the Arts and Entertainment section of the Sunday Chicago Tribune, there she was again in an article discussing Derailed.

Uncle, OK? We give up. Chicagoist surrenders its brain to you, Miss Almost Mrs. Vince. Just tell us what you want the people to know and we shall be your PR vessel.

* Aniston and Owen are doing interviews together, not solo, because they are co-stars in the film. Not because of any concerns that the press might ask Aniston about certain coincidences between the plot of the film (the aftermath of an affair her character has with a suburban ad exec played by Owen) and Aniston’s real life. Besides, it’s not like the press has a one-track mind or something.

* The makers of the film would appreciate it if, when speaking about the film with your friends, you manage to work in the adjective "Hitchcockian" as often as possible and leave out phrases like “exploitive cautionary tale.”

* Speaking on noirish undertones, despite quotes like this from the film’s producer:

"One of the things that we wanted to show was that the main character was coming from the safe neighborhood where he lived to the dark city."

…the makers of the film don’t actually think Chicago is an evil, dark cesspool. Instead, the quote is intended as homage to Alex Proyas’ Dark City. Though many of the exteriors were shot here, all the interiors were shot in London which is way more full of infidelity than Chicago. Mainly thanks to this guy.

We here at Chicagoist wish Ms. Aniston good luck with the media gauntlet this week. With all those personal questions, it sounds like she's been in an uncomfortable position lately.
