Things To Do

By Scott Smith in Arts & Entertainment on Nov 11, 2005 4:02PM

Weekends are supposed to be times when we get away from work and our PDAs and our to-do lists. 2005_11_11_todo.jpgbut we’re feeling a bit overwhelmed today so we’re taking a few notes so we don’t forget anything.

1. See some short films. The Fast Forward Film Festival returns from its four-month hiatus to bring you “Real Short Stories,” a series of films about the good and the bad of childhood. It’s real guerilla filmmaking as all the films are created in just one night. The screening will be held at Open End Gallery (2000 W. Fulton) this Saturday at 8 PM. Admission is $5 and it’s BYOB.

2. Buy Pitchfork 10th Anniversary Bash tickets for eventual scalping to desperate hipsters on Craiglist.* Not content to rest on the laurels of Intonation, the Pitchforkers are throwing a New Year’s Eve party at the Viaduct Theatre to celebrate ten years of rating records like they were gymnasts. It’s a two day event featuring The Books, Diplo, Wolf Parade, Blood on the Wall and Jason Forrest. Tickets go on sale tomorrow at noon through Ticketweb. Click here for the page to bookmark and refresh come 11:59 AM.

3. Track down parents’ copy of Gordon Lightfoot’s “Summertime Dream” album.
We plan on giving “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” a couple spins as we raise a glass of whiskey in remembrance of those 29 men who died 30 years ago yesterday and were immortalized in one of the longest and saddest songs to ever hit #2 on the pop charts.

* Kidding!
