Breaking: Conrad Black Indicted... Finally!
By Aaron Bailey in News on Nov 17, 2005 10:12PM
It was only a matter of time before Lord Conrad Black was indicted on criminal fraud charges. Just a few minutes ago, U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald announced that Black would stand trial for looting millions of dollars from Hollinger, his once-mighty media empire which owns the Chicago Sun-Times. The company also owns dozens of suburban newspapers and once owned the Daily Telegraph (UK) and the Jerusalem Post.
The indictments also named three former Hollinger execs, John Boultbee, Peter Atkinson and Mark Kipnis, of fraud.
A month ago, Black's right hand man pleaded David Radler, pleaded guilty to charges and agreed to rat out Conrad and others. He'll serve 29 months in the slammer and pay $250,000 in fines.
This extended drama has been fascinating to watch and can only get more intriguing from here. Stay tuned, Chicago, this is just beginning.
