Will the Cubs Land Furcal?

Prodded by unmet expectation in '05 and a World Series title across town, Cubs GM Jim Hendry has been on a bit of a pre-holiday spending spree.

2005_12_sports_furcal.jpgLast week, he bolstered the Cubs bullpen by adding Scott Eyre and Bob Howry. Giving each 3-year deals, Erye will earn $11 million over that span while Howry will make $12 million.

With the bullpen problems addressed, Hendry is now focusing on trying to lure Braves shortstop Rafael Furcal to the Cubs. He paid him a visit this week and presented the Cubs offer rumored to be $10 million per year for 5 years. Will that be enough to make him jump from the Braves? According to one of those mysterious "sources," Furcal liked the Cubs offer and is leaning towards joining them. Unless that's all just a ploy to get the Braves to increase their offer? We'll most likely find out within the next few days...
