Chicagoist Week In Review: The More You Know Edition

Sure, smoking’s always good for comment bait. But don’t get Chicagoist readers started on the topic of urban renewal!
Our post on the plans to knock down the “Artful Dodger building” sent you into paroxysms of preservationist rage. In fact, more of you would rather see condos go up in the Loop than in Chicago neighborhoods (so long as no one complains about the bucket boys, we assume). As far as the proposal to expand Navy Pier goes, your thoughts there were neatly summed up by commenter “s” who said: “I can say with certainty that I don't not like Navy Pier.”
Other things we learned this week:
* Some new laws are in effect for 2006 and cable companies are raising their rates (speaking of rate increases, did anyone else notice stamps went up two cents this weekend?).
* It’s always a good idea to ask permission before doing a good deed. At least when nuns are involved so you don’t end up saying 100 Hail Marys as penance.
* There’s a huge fault line in Illinois. Who knew? Everyone, apparently.
* If people think you're a bad guy then you might as well go ahead and dress like Jimmy Cagney.
* We are so fat. How fat are we? We are so fat that Houstonist is offering to teach us the ways of healthy eating. Houstonist, people. Where the four food groups are BBQ, beer, chili, and chicken-fried chicken.
* For sheer toughness, Chuck Norris has nothing on Lou Rawls.
* Rock stars can be way classier than rock fans sometimes.
Finally, if we’re a part of your daily reads and you’re thankful that we, in some small measure, are responsible for helping you stay sane during your workday, why not nominate us for a Bloggie?
