Chicagoist Totally Wants You

By Rachelle Bowden in Miscellaneous on Jan 10, 2006 3:45PM

It's the new year and Chicagoist has been busy making some resolutions. Along with promising to lose 2006_01_help_wanted.jpgten pounds from our ass and drink a little less (at least around our parents), Chicagoist wants to expand its content. In addition to talking about what's going on in the news, we want to spend 2006 telling you more about the best things in Chicago. And we want your help!

Specific positions are listed below. If you're interested in any of them, meet the qualifications, can make the time commitment and would like to join the Chicagoist team, email chicagoistapply(at)gmail(dot)com with the position in the subject line. In the email tell us about yourself, why you'd be good on that beat, and throw in a sample post if you like.

Interviews
Chicagoist loves to do interviews but we'd like to bring you more of them. To meet our interview per week goal, we'd like to add on one or two people to do interviews with local polictical figures, business owners, artists, or pretty much anyone who lives in Chicago, loves the city and has something interesting to say. Contributors will need to research interviewees, conduct in-person or phone interviews, edit the interview, and write posts.

Food and Drink
Chicagoist would like to add 3 contributors to our Food and Drink team. The first is someone whose love of food is devoted to the independent, affordable neighborhood restaurant and bar. Since Chuck is already covering the South Side, we'd like this new person to cover North Side eateries. Ideally, this person will contribute two entries per week with one being a review of a restaurant or bar.

Another person we'd like to add is someone who goes to higher-end restaurants, anywhere in the city. If you like eating fancy and you'd like to share it with us, then this position is for you. We need to have 1 post/week from this person.

Finally, we'd like to add a cooking aficionado to school our readers on the latest and greatest in cooking and independent grocers. This person will contribute at least two posts a week, with one of those posts devoted to the preparation of one recipe. A digital camera will be necessary!

Ask Chicagoist
We love the questions you're asking us, but it's too much for one of us to field. If you've always got the answers to your friends' questions, if you are the keeper of unique Chicago trivia, or if you've got mad research skills, apply for our Ask Chicagoist position.

Sports
Chicagoist does a great job of covering our most popular sports - football, basketball, baseball. If you're someone who likes soccer, hockey, wrestling, boxing and any other sporting event that comes Chicago's way, apply for our open sports position. This position will be expected to post 2-3 times/week.

Focus
Chicagoist loves to bring you photos of our city and our city's people. We added the Flickr button so everyone can participate, but we still want to get a photographer of our own for the Focus feature of the site. Share your photos with us on a weekly basis.

Books & Literauture
We need someone who knows how to read to cover Books and Literature. When a big, famous author comes to town or a great new book about Chicago (or written by a Chicagoan) gets released, our readers need to know. If you can knock out two posts a week about readin’ then let us know.

Copy Editor
You know we make a lot of typos. You know in a rush we say "your" instead of "you're." If you're a grammar nazi who'd like to police our team on a daily basis, apply for the copy editor position.

General Contributors
Finally, we'd like to add a few more contributors to write on a daily basis on general subjects (things that aren't sports, music, film, food, arts, politics - and there are a lot of them!).

If you'd like to apply for any of these postitions, send an email to chicagoistapply(at)gmail(dot)com and indicate the position you're applying for in the subject line. In the email tell us about yourself, why you'd be good on that beat, and throw in a sample post if you like.
