Marshall Field's on State to Stay Marshall Field's on State?

2006_01_marshall_fields.jpgBack in September, Federated Department Stores royally pissed everyone in Chicago off by saying that they'd be changing the name of all Marshall Field's stores to Macy's, including everyone's favorite, the flagship on State Street. But now, after some brisk holiday sales, they're thinking that maybe Marshall Field's isn't such a bad name. The money they raked in spoke to them saying, "Hey, listen to what everyone's been telling you. The store is both an icon and a tourist destination. If you change the name to Macy's then it's no longer either." Or something like that.

It doesn't mean that the nameplates on the store won't be changing to Macy's, though. It's all kind of still up in the air. The possibilities are that maybe they'll still have Field's branded merchandise, or an in-store Field's shop, or maybe.. just maybe.. they will keep the Field's name on the flagship.
