Three photography shows have come across our radar within the last day and we'd like to share them with you. They're each very different from one another but all seem worth checking out.
The first is helping celebrate Black History Month. "The Journey: The Next 100 Years" is a photo exhibit on display at Roosevelt University and shows life in the black community, Chicago through the eyes of African-American photographers. The opening ceremony is on Feb. 2, the exhibit runs now through March 10. On display are 48 photos and admission is free.
Next up is something entirely different. The DAMeN STUDIO is hosting a Toy Camera Show from February 4 - March 3. This show features photographs taken with plastic, cardboard, or pinhole cameras. The opening reception is this Saturday from 6pm - 9pm. Regular gallery hours are Sundays from 1pm - 5pm or by appointment. To see a list of artists involved, check out the Chicago Photobloggers site.
Finally, you can't go wrong with the Chicago Photography Center and they're having a sneak preview of their Winter 2006 WITHiNSIGHT Gallery Show. The event is at the Center (3301 N Lincoln) from 8pm - 10:30pm on Friday night. It's $25 if you pay by Feb 1 (paypal@chicagophoto.org or contact nicole@chicagophoto.org) or it's $30 at the door. It's the most expensive of the 3 openings, but you get free wine and booze, hors d'oeuvres, and live music. Then there's the special unveiling at 9pm featuring 14 CPC photographers.
Don't miss your chance to check out at least one of these local photography events!
