Do You Have Talent? Sure You Do!

By Scott Smith in Arts & Entertainment on Feb 2, 2006 4:00PM

When we interviewed the band May Or May Not last week, we were surprised at how talented all of them were; it’s not unusual to see them switching instruments several times during a show. But what we didn’t know is that they all had hidden talents. Apparently, some of their friends do too, which spurred them on to hold the 1st Annual Mrs. Meow's Talënza Bonanza Talent Show this February 10th at Phyllis’ Musical Inn (1800 W. Division).

2006_02_mrsmeow.jpgOrganized by MOMN keyboardist Amelia Styer, the Talënza Bonanza has plenty of interesting acts lined up already including a one-person spelling bee, a puppet rock opera, a magician, a contortionist, a belly dancer and a circus act called Diablo. “It’s going to be complete nonsense,” says Styer. “But I love nonsense. I’m just hoping everybody gets really loaded beforehand.” Ah, now there’s a talent Chicagoist would be happy to demonstrate.

Mrs. Meow is still looking for acts for the show. So if you can juggle, sing a song, dance, fix small appliances, dramatically read soup labels, or demonstrate any other unique talent, e-mail Mrs. Meow at ameliastyer at yahoo dot com to sign up. Prizes will be awarded for the most entertaining act and loaded audience members can enjoy DJ Dirty Cowboy spinning between acts and gift bags to boot. Thigns get started at 9 p.m. and there's no cover.

Meanwhile, we’re going to start working on our all-kazoo version of Aerosmith’s “Walk This Way.”
