Breaking: Laski Resigns

After being indicted in the Hired Truck scandal and vowing to stay in office and fight the charges against him, City Clerk James Laski has resigned.

Laski gave Mayor Daley a one sentence letter of resignation today reading, "It is with deep regret and a profound sense of humility that I hereby tender my resignation as city clerk of the city of Chicago, effective Feb. 7, 2006."

Daley will choose someone to serve as City Clerk until next year's election. Hey, Mayor, Chicagoist is available!
