Reading is Fun, Part Un

By Margaret Hicks on Feb 28, 2006 3:09PM

beer.jpgWe’re always looking for something that can incorporate our variety of interests. We can drink and watch improv, or we can drink and watch movies, or we can drink and paint pottery. (We don’t think we’re supposed to drink at the pottery-painting place, but eh, that’s the great thing about drinking, it’s portable).

That’s why RUI: Reading Under the Influence is the greatest thing we’ve seen since vodka came in flavors. RUI, held the first Wednesday of the month, is billed as a “reading series”. The writers read lines written by other authors, and their own original work as well.

The catch comes in the form of shots, as catches often do. Before reading, the reader gets two shots, downs one, reads, and then downs the other one. Then trivia questions abound and winners get free drinks.

RUI is having their one-year anniversary this Wednesday and they’re doing it up differently (they’ll have pizza!) and hosting an open mike. Check their website if you want to sign up.

We'll be there, because adding pizza into the mix is just too much.
