This is an Ecru Line Train

The CTA has been pretty busy lately expanding the Brown Line and running out of money. So, they’re looking for a little help on their latest project – renaming the Cermak branch of the Blue Line.

They think the city’s grade-schoolers are old enough to chip in and help out around the house, so it’s up to the kids to come up with a new name.

The CTA had tentatively named it the Silver Line, but then decided the color was so overdone in the transportation arena and that the next time they saw a silver Jetta or Corolla, they would totally puke. And the trains themselves are, in fact, silver, so that could get a little confusing.

If Chicagoist was still in third grade, we’d be spacing out in gym class right about now, trying to decide between Misty Rose and Blanched Almond for our color pick, and then we’d get hit in the face with a whiffle ball and the other team would score a home run. Lucky for us, we’re not in third grade anymore, so we’re wondering just how many practical names exist that won’t confuse and/or infuriate riders. Unless the CTA is actually planning on operating the Salmon Line or the Ecru Line, this contest is less about creativity and more about teaching kids how to piss people off the least. And, in that case, we'd suggest paying more attention in gym class.
