Blago Takes a Shot at Topinka

2006_03_nra.jpg Yesterday Governor Blagojevich visited the Sun-Times editorial board and tried to convince them to endorse his reelection bid. Blago, who seemed "larger than life" to Carol Marin, didn’t seem too worried about his primary challenge from Edwin Eisendrath and instead focused on Republican frontrunner Judy Baar Topinka and called her a shill for the National Rifle Association.

In the past the NRA has given Topinka an A rating for supporting its positions, and Blago said “… if you get an A rating from the NRA, you're basically taking their talking points and doing their bidding. And I would urge her to forget about the NRA, stop pandering to the right wing and join us and help us pass a ban on assault weapons." Blagojevich has partnered with Mayor Daley to try to bring about a statewide ban on assault weapons.

NRA lobbyist Chris W. Cox responded by calling Blago “uninformed and shrill on issues when it comes to the Second Amendment and freedom.” And then he shot him. Okay, so maybe we made up that last part.
