The name's Wood, first name Balsa

2006_03_sports_kerrywood.jpgIt's just not offically Spring Training until Kerry Wood gets hurt. So it should come as a shock to nobody when the Cubs announced today that Kerry Wood will have knee surgery on Tuesday. He'll undergo arthroscopic surgery to repair damage to the medial meniscus in his right knee.

This is yet another setback for Wood, who's already rehabbing from arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder that was performed last August.

Wood informed the Cubs about three days ago that he was feeling discomfort in the knee. An MRI revealed the tear.

While Wood thought he would be able to play through the tear as it wasn't causing much pain, the Cubs felt it was best to repair it surgically now, rather than waiting for it to get worse during the season.

"I'm not expecting to miss more than a couple weeks," Wood said. Yeah, we've heard that one before. So, does Wood take the mound before the All-Star break? Will he be back before Mark Prior serves his own annual stint on the DL?
