Sounds of the City

By Alicia Dorr in Miscellaneous on Mar 6, 2006 10:39PM

For those who are all about the "This is Grand" moment on the Red or Blue Lines, don't worry: Peter Cusack is coming.

The sound artist/recorder is coming to the city as a part of an ongoing city sounds project—first he polls about Millenniumgreatlawn.jpgfavorite city sounds, then he puts the album together. One's already out for London and Beijing is in the works, but these things do take time. He'll be doing the "Your Favourite Chicago Sounds" (the "ou" is his, because he's British) project March 13-17, so if you see people wandering around with gear don't start your bird calls.

The polling is basically confined to Likestodootherthings.com, where you can vote on a few questions about what your favorite sounds in Chicago are. Well, you can actually vote on your favorite "sounding" place in Chicago, too...and your favorite place. Tell people to vote so the sounds aren't just your average Chicago sounds—like the screeching of the el as it crawls into the station 10 minutes late.
