Tweezer Tower Developer Listens to Chicagoist

2006_03_fordham_spire.jpgRembember the broadcast tower that was to be built near Navy Pier? The one shaped like a big ol' pair of tweezers? When Chicagoist posted on this back in October, we wondered why, if TV stations are itching to put up taller antennas than the ones they already have on the Sears Tower and the Hancock Center, they would build a freestanding broadcast tower. Why not put antennas on Santiago Calatrava's drill bit-like Fordham Spire, which was to be built just blocks away. Fordham Spire will be 2,000 feet tall and will be the world's tallest building, if it ever actually gets completed.

Well, look who's considering a change of plans now. Tweezer Tower's developers are now in talks with the Fordham Spire developers to put antennas on top of the spire as a more cost-effective solution. So, if this all goes down, Chicagoist is totally going to take credit. Eh, we better get a lawyer, huh? Cuz we need to get our mitts on some of that condo money!
