Marching Madness

On Saturday, for anyone within a mile of the city, it was tough not to notice that it was the downtown St. Patrick’s Day parade. The throngs of partygoers covered in green flair … the green river … the massive public vomiting …
[sniff] It was all so beautiful. [wipe away a tear]
For those who claim that this holiday is for amateurs: you’re right. But Chicagoist has marched in the parade for the last 13 years (with any organization that would have us), and you’ve not lived until Mayor Daley himself gives you a thumbs-up for violating open-container laws.
Uh, or so we’ve heard …
At any rate, given the unusually beautiful weather this year, the crowds were out in unusual numbers. We cannot remember the last time the Loop was so crazy. We couldn’t even get into our usual post-parade stop: Lizzie McNeill’s. We thought it was our little secret.
