Guillemots Ticket and CD Giveaway

By Scott Smith in Arts & Entertainment on Mar 14, 2006 3:00PM

As Chicagoist walked through the cutting winds and cursed winter for overstaying its welcome, we tried to think happy thoughts about warmer climates. Since we've been listening to the torrent from South by Southwest, our minds drifted down to Texas and we imagines we were there sitting in the warm sun as we dined on BBQ and ice cold beer and listened to that sweet, sweet music. Then the dudes from ZZ Top showed up and put us in some cool clothes and gave us this really cool keychain...

Someday our fantasy life will no longer remain mired in our teenage years.

2005_03_guillemots.jpgAnother group of people who are having SXSW dreams are the Guillemots. While their website gives us a headache with all the wacky capitalization, their Based in Britain, the songs of the Guillemots are full of quirky, spacey keyboard jams. When they tighten things up, squeeze out a tune like "Who Left The Lights Off, Baby," (check their MySpace page to hear it) the happiest, peppiest, kiss-off song this side of Elvis Costello with some gorgeous vocals courtesy of Fyfe Dangerfield.

The Guillemots are headed to SXSW this week and from there they'll head straight to Schuba's on the 19th of March. On the off-chance that they bring some warm weather (or BBQ or Shiner Bock) back with them, we'd like to send a lucky reader and a friend to the show. We'll even thrown in a copy of their CD, From The Cliffs. You'll also get a chance to see The Spinto Band try to make people forget about their less-than-awesome set at Tomorrow Never Knows Fest back in January.

Click after the jump to enter. Contest closes on Thursday, March 16th. Winners will be notified by Friday.
