Lollapa-(insert your own pun here)-looza

2006_03_flaming_lips.jpgWell, the Lollapalooza line-up is out, and we have to admit we're a little confused. Sure, we're excited that groups like the Flaming Lips and Sybris are on the bill. Sure we can't wait to see if Ryan Adams provides us with the meltdown that Anton Newcombe cheated us out of last year. And, yes even we can admit, we can't wait to see Kanye's halo appear as he drifts upward into the heavens at the climax of his set.

But Blues Traveler? The Disco Biscuits? And, oh yeah, we hear the Spin Doctors are available if you want to add them to the bill as well. Somebody take the fucking Ex out of Perry's mouth stat!

Okay, lest you think we're just being grumps here, we do think that, overall, as far as a 130 band line-up goes this one isn't half bad. Seriously, we could go on for days about the virtues of many of the acts. However we're still a little leery of the noise bleed that is sure to ensue with an even greater number of stages, and we don't even want to think of how our legs are going to feel after sprinting from one end of Grant Park to the other all day long to catch different acts, but we just can’t help getting a little amped. We've seen some of the other big fest line-ups taking place elsewhere in this country (ahem, anyone for lame-o desert rocking?) and we're pretty pleased that Chicago seems to have gotten some pretty kick ass bands. And we haven't even seen the full line-up for the summer's other two big local festival type things!

Finally, we can stop apologizing for the crap bands booked into The Taste every year.
