Major League Soccer All-Star Team Versus Chelsea in Chicago?

By Todd McClamroch in News on Mar 27, 2006 9:05PM

03_27_06_chelsea.jpgIt appears all but official that English Premier League champion Chelsea will be coming to Chicago this summer to play against the Major League Soccer All-Star Team. The rumor is that Chicago's Bridgeview Stadium has been selected as the site of the 2006 Major League Soccer All-Star game in late July. Major League Soccer has made an effort to bring big games to new soccer-specific stadiums, and it would be a great win for Chicago to host this match.

Major League Soccer has played with a variety of different formats for All-Star games; from the traditional one division's best versus another, to pitting the best international MLS stars versus the best domestic MLS stars, and most recently putting the best MLS has to offer against another club team from abroad.

Chelsea is no stranger to playing in the States. Two years ago they played a series of matches versus other European clubs and then played AC Milan and D.C. United last year in the United States.

We hope to get official confirmation of the All-Star game vs. Chelsea from the Fire's front office or Major League Soccer in the coming days.
