Stroger Recovering at Rehab Institute

Cook County Board President John Stroger has been moved from Rush University Medical Center to the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago as he continues to recover from his stroke.

2006_04_johnstroger.jpgNot a lot of details about his condition and recovery have been released, but his son, Alderman Todd Stroger, says his father's impatience and improved speech and mobility is a good sign. We're very happy to hear Stroger is on the mend. But CBS 2 has a question from neurosurgeon Dr. Leonard Cerullo that we find ourselves pondering as well: "Is he going to make the kind of recovery that would allow him and for which he would want to continue on with his public life?”

Sources aren't looking for Stroger to say whether he will retire or not until maybe July. There is some speculation that Secretary of State Jesse White might be a good replacement on the ballot if Stroger decides he cannot go on. We're not so sure. White's got a good thing going down in Springfield. Why would he want to step into the fires of Cook County government?
