Finding Your Space

creativechicago.jpgArtists take heed, the City is looking out for you. Finding a suitable studio, performance space or even an affordable habitat can seem daunting when you’re chasing that dream. At tomorrow’s Creative Chicago Space + Housing Expo a gaggle of realty experts, financiers, and well-meaning bureaucrats will be on hand to guide you through the process, so you may buy with confidence and put another fat commission into their coffers.

Kidding aside, the DCA and Chicago Artists Resource are once again pulling together creative professionals, this time to offer workshops on housing, certainly, along with starting that non-profit anarchist dance collective, starting that home recording studio for your future indie rock label, protecting yourself from the big bad lawsuit, and staying safe and healthy at home. Representatives from City agencies will let you ask them anything–within reason—about getting permits and licenses and generally staying within the law. Then get hooked up. Post your spaces for rent or business opportunities on a giant bulletin board and wait for the calls and emails to roll in.

The Creative Chicago Space + Housing Expo will be held Saturday from 10am-3pm at the Chicago Cultural Center, 77 East Randolph St. More info at 312-744-6630. It’s free, so drag your broke ass down there!
