Chicago's First Lady, Maggie Daley, was diagnosed with breast cancer almost four years ago. Since that time she has quietly fought her disease and lended her name and support to various breast cancer charities and events. Yesterday she opened up ever so slightly about her ongoing fight against the disease.
Daley thanked doctors and scientists for their medical breakthroughs while thanking Abbott Laboratories for giving $1 million towards after school science programs for public school children. Daley said she is going in for cancer treatments "all the time" and called scientists "creative geniuses." She added, "I think some of you can imagine my personal respect, enormous respect and gratitude, to our scientists because I stand here as a result of their work. It is phenomenal what we see that has happened over the years..."
Chicagoist is with you Mrs. Daley. We have seen firsthand the devastating effects breast cancer has on patients, friends, and families, yet we have been given hope by rapid advancements in treatments that increase the chances of recovery while decrease side effects. Futhermore, we totally heart Maggie Daley's ongoing service and commitment to our community. No matter what you think of Da Mare, you gotta give it up for his wife.
