Moo & Oink Idol

In the heat of grilling season, Chicagoist gets his ribs from Moo & Oink. (Everybody, now: "Moo and oink. Moo, moo, mooo and oink"). And if you spend any amount of time watching television, the commercials are fairly ubiquitous. So we were floored when a fellow member of the Chicagoist staff told us about this jingle contest that Moo & Oink is promoting, but didn't know about Moo & Oink. Once we caught the staffer up to speed, we started to think, "Why tamper with perfection?"
The jingle contest, hosted by local hip-hop emcee and self-proclaimed "stunna" Shorty K, started last month and runs through May. Weekly winners receive $250, with the grand prize winner from the 10 finalists receiving a cool one thousand dollars. The winning jingles are available for download at Moo & Oink's website; yes, Chicagoist listened to them all. We like "Shop @ Moo & Oink" by Kenlo Key the best. It has this sample loop from a dusty groove and lyrics that could make a vegan buy pork. Of the others, we will say with regard to last week's jingle winner, the double entendre nightmare "Put It In My Mouth", that white kids with access to Pro Tools and nothing but time on their hands should stay as far away from this contest as possible.
