More Cubs Injured

Maybe the Cubs should have sold the naming rights to the bleachers to Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and instead of a "batters' eye" lounge, the should have installed a medical clinic. Because the Cubs just cannot seem to stay healthy. No sooner does the media report that Kerry Wood may be close to beginning his minor league rehab, the Cubs see two players injured on the same play! They didn't even run into each other, so this kind of fate takes special talent.
During the 7th inning of last night's game in Los Angeles, Cubs first baseman Derrek Lee sprained his wrist in a collision at first base with the Dogers' Rafael Furcal. Meanwhile, relief pitcher Scott Eyre banged his knee falling over while trying to field the ball Furcal put into play.
Eyre's listed as day-to-day. X-rays taken on Lee last night were inconclusive, so more tests will be performed to determine the extent of his injury. This could be a bad break for the club if Lee misses significant action with any kind of break or ligament damage. They've been playing pretty well so far (9-5, a half game behind Houston), and look poised to compete for the NL Central title once a healthy Wood and Prior return to the lineup. But at some point they need to have everybody healthy if they truly expect to compete.
