Ryan Juror Drama Continues

By Amy Hart in News on Apr 21, 2006 11:40AM

First two jurors were kicked off the George Ryan case for lying on their pretrial questionnaires. Then, after the guilty verdict came down, we find out that four other jurors were less than honest on the questionnaires, but were allowed to remain on the case. As you might expect, the defense is all over this.

2006_04_gavel.jpgJudge Rebecca Pallmeyer was set to release court documents which would help to explain why some jurors were allowed to stay on the case while others were dismissed for seemingly committing the same offense, but has delayed release of the transcripts as she wants more time to review the document. It is expected that those jurors who were allowed to stay on the case provided Pallmeyer with logical explanations as to why there were incorrect responses on their questionnaires.

Still, the inconsistencies in juror treatment are leading to whispers of the possibility of a new trial. You know that tiny light of idealism we had rediscovered when the verdict was read? It has pretty much burned out already.
