A Reprieve From the Ryan Trial Madness

By Amy Hart in News on May 5, 2006 9:01PM

2006_05_georgeryan.jpgAfter jury drama during deliberations and after the guilty verdict in the George Ryan corruption trial, Judge Rebecca Pallmeyer has finally said enough is enough and concluded her investigation into jury misconduct and denied the defense motion to declare a mistrial.

Ryan's attorneys requested Pallmeyer look into wrongdoing during deliberations as reports surfaced that outside legal materials were brought into the jury room. Pallmeyer said that even if case law was brought into the jury room, it did not influence the jury.

Now Ryan's defense will have to wait until June to start post-trial motions for a mistrial. We are happy to have a month to recover from this madness.
