Improvised Jazz Lives On

We’ve worried about the loss of places to see and/or hear jazz in Chicago recently, but tonight the improvised music continues in the Wednesday night series at the Hideout entitled “Immediate Sound”.
Fred Lonberg-Holm’s Lightbox Orchestra starts it all off with an un-planned and un-rehearsed two-set show. How is this possible? Each player is assigned a specific color that cues them to enter or leave the ensemble from Fred’s lightbox and they proceed from there. Cue cards could also be involved suggesting approaches for the musician regarding register, technique, or attitude.
The players this evening are: Fred Lonberg-Holm (conductor), Josh Berman (cornet), Jeb Bishop (trombone), Jaimie Branch (trumpet), Keefe Jackson (reeds), Jason Stein (bass clarinet), Anton Hatwich (bass), Kent Kessler (bass), Jason Adasiewicz (vibes), and Tim Daisy (drums).
The rest of the series promises spontaneous music with some of the best improvisational players from around the world.
Tickets $6. Doors 9:30 pm.
