Rare Medium, Well Done!

By Margaret Hicks in Arts & Entertainment on May 10, 2006 1:37PM

A couple of weeks ago, we wrote about Transitions Bookplace going through an icky transition of its own. Well, things have changed, and an angel (if you believe, clap your hands!) has come to save them. An anonymous benefactor has given them enough money to keep afloat (plus some), and is only asking for 1% ownership. We’re glad to hear Transitions is staying open, because otherwise, we wouldn’t be able to see real-life Medium, Allison DuBois.

Now, some people might be relieved to know that the dead are with them, watching them make mistakes and sharing their joys. We, however, find it discombobulating; knowing our dead grandmother is watching us fall down after too many margaritas is not our idea of a deeper connection, and don’t even get us started about trying to cover ourselves while we’re using the potty.

Medium.jpgBut Allison DuBois has written a new book, “We Are Their Heaven”. She is here to tell us that there is a connection to the afterlife, that our friends on the opposite side of the Styx want to contact us, and that we are their happiness, just as they were ours.

You may know the name Allison DuBois if you like tiny women and television. DuBois is the inspiration behind “Medium” starring Patricia Arquette (who seriously, is itsy-bitsy). DuBois in real life is married, (her husband keeps a blog), she has three daughters who have acquired her skill, and she started as an intern for the district attorney’s office, just like her TV counterpart.

Of course she has her skeptics, but we think she’s way more believable than that wimpy John Edwards, plus, we like her rock-star-Medium hair.

Okay Allison, if you know we’re coming, bake us a cake.

You can see Allison DuBois on Thurs., May 11, 7:00PM, at Transitions Bookplace, 1000 W. North Ave. 312.951.7323
