Beer on the Pier: Because You Don't Win Friends With Salad

2006_05_BeerFest.jpgDidn't it seem like we were enjoying primo beer garden weather just a couple days ago? That's because we were. Mother Nature, you're such a tease.

Even though the forecast calls for showers and temperatures in the low-to-mid fifties this weekend, Festival Hall A at Navy Pier is being transformed into a giant indoor beer garden. Attendees at Saturday's Beer Fest 2006: "Beer on the Pier" will be able to sample hundreds of beers from over forty breweries, enjoy live music, and meet the, ahem, Chicago Bar Babes. They'll be moderating panel discussions on Schopenhauer and why "lather, rinse, repeat" is a three-step chemical process.

What we're trying to say is that it'll include everything one might find at your average summer street fair, only with a better selection of beer and minimal risk of sunburn.

Tickets are available at www.beeronthepier.com. If you do plan on attending, buy in advance. If you wait until Saturday the cost is $45. The festival will be split into two four-hour sessions (noon-4 p.m. and 6-10 p.m.), which should give cleanup crews ample time to hose down the ballroom.
